The radiator is a component of the cooling system, and helps to cool your engine and prevent your car from overheating. Radiators that aren’t functioning properly run the risk of causing serious, often expensive, damage if left untreated.
The function of the radiator is to transfer heat from the coolant inside your engine to the air outside. Keeping the coolant cool also keeps the engine cool, preventing overheating. If you begin to notice any of the warning signs below, your radiator may be failing as a result.
This may seem obvious, but it’s a clear sign of a failing radiator. One reason for this could be a malfunctioning thermostat. A non-working thermostat will cause engines to overheat and breakdown.
The next time you pull out of a parking spot or your garage, take a look at the space once below your vehicle. Coolant can be red, yellow or green in color. Leaks may form in the radiator itself, a hose or even in the engine block. They should be addressed as soon as noticed.
As stated above, coolant should be yellow green or red in color. Faulty radiators may deposit sludge into the coolant as it operates. This will cause the fluid to be brown or rust colored, almost like oil. These contaminants in the coolant can greatly impact overall performance.
Keeping your radiator in a working condition is key to a healthy coolant system and your vehicle’s performance overall. The ASE-Certified technicians at TLS Motorworks have years of experience diagnosing and repairing radiator problems. Come see us today for service you can count on.
