Checking a tire | TLS Motorworks

When it comes to your car's wheels, a strange noise can be a cause for concern. A clicking noise that is coming from the wheels or tires is never a good sign, and should definitely be looked at. Typically, it can indicate that there is a problem with the steering & suspension system, which directly affects your ability to properly control your vehicle.

The suspension and steering systems are very complex and have lots of connected parts. If you're hearing a clicking noise coming from the wheels, chances are there is a problem with the steering or suspension. Here are some of the common reasons behind this strange symptom:

  • Bad or worn shocks or struts - the shocks and struts are responsible for absorbing shock from the road to keep your car steady. A problem with these can lead to tire wear and suspension damage.

  • Damaged CV joint - the CV joints are the end of the front axle and helps make sure that it can move with the wheels and suspension when you turn. A damaged CV joint can cause that clicking noise when turning.

  • Loose hubcaps - hubcaps are the metal covering on your wheels, which can become loose over time. This can cause a noise to emanate from the wheels as you drive, and would just need to be tightened.

If you suspect that you have any of the problems listed above, we invite you to our shop for an inspection. Never ignore a strange noise while on the road, because it can be an indication of an issue that could progress if not taken care of. We'll make sure to pinpoint the exact cause of the clicking noise and do what we can to repair the issue and get you back on the road. Call us with any questions today!
